Avocado Tree (Persea americana)
Description: Drops leaves during flowering in the spring. The fruit does not generally ripen until it falls or is picked from the tree. Fruit matures 5 to 8 months after flowering.Size: Medium to large (20-40 feet in height)
Location: Plant at least 30 feet from power lines and 16-22 feet from your house. Full sun with well-drained soil.
Salt tolerance: None
Watering: Water during planting and for one year thereafter (see watering schedule in the "Dig In Miami-Dade County"
booklet). May need to water during fruiting if under drought conditions.
Fertilization: Do not fertilize until 6 months after planting. Call 305-248-3311 ext.228 for fertilizing information specific to your tree.
Pruning: Wait one year to prune. If staked, remove after 6 months.
