(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Two additional information and communications centers are open to serve Haitian-American residents in Miami-Dade County. The centers offer a range of social services, as well as free long-distance calls to Haiti. The two new centers -- Haitian Senior Center, 5080 Biscayne Boulevard, and the Minor League Club House, 1601 SE 28th Avenue, established by the City of Homestead and Florida City -- are possible with the support of AT&T.
A third information and communications hub opened on Wednesday, January 13th, within 24 hours of the earthquake. The hub, located at the Edison/Little River Neighborhood Center, 150 NW 79th Avenue, has served more than 300 clients. People are obtaining information on social services, relief collection locations, and connecting to Haiti through free long-distance phone service provided by Comcast. "It's been a tremendous service to our Haitian-American community to connect with family and friends in Haiti," said Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez. "I'm very appreciative to our private sector partners for contributing phone service."
