The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) will host a Business Recovery Program hurricane exercise on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with national and local private sector employers.
The Miami-Dade County Business Recovery Program was developed to incorporate major corporations and private sector employers into the post-storm recovery process. The hurricane exercise will bring private sector partners like Chase, IBM, Allstate Insurance, The Home Depot, Beckman Coulter, the United States Federal Reserve System and others into the EOC to test their emergency plans.
Exercise participants will be using a software program called the Business Continuity Information Network (BCIN). Florida International University (FIU) developed the BCIN which is a communications system that allows businesses and emergency managers to immediately share important information before, during and after an emergency. The Web-based system is the first of its kind in the United States and can be accessed anywhere in the world.
