Our primary customers are manufacturers who submit technical documentation, including but not limited to test reports, engineering analysis and installation procedures.
Our staff reviews the information and determines whether the submittal is sufficient to demonstrate compliance with the Building Code. If so approval is recommended to the Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA), whose membership represents a cross-section of our industry. If information is not sufficient to conclude compliance, then additional information is requested from the manufacturer.
The fees for this service are as follows:
-
Initial submittals, which are valid for five years total $4000.00.
-
Revisions cost $1500.00 and can be filed at any time, but do not extend the original approval's expiration date.
-
Renewals cost $1500.00 and are valid for five years.
-
Fees paid for the review process are non-refundable.
The flow of documentation within our internal functions is as follows:
-
Our customer initiates the process by submitting the product documentation package.
-
Our clerical staff enters information into our system and a customer/product file is created.
-
The file is forwarded to one of our engineers, who will perform a review for completeness of information. This serves as an expedited preliminary review to inform our customers of any information that may be missing.
-
The file is then forwarded to our technical reviewer, who either recommends approval or requests additional information from our customers.
-
The proposal is then sent for final review to the customer and to the Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA).
-
Approval is automatic 20 days after proposal was sent, unless an objection is presented. A Notice of Acceptance (NOA) is then issued which becomes the approval document.
