    Baynanza

    Baynanza 2010

Baynanza 2010 was fun and very fulfilling for thousands of community volunteers. Thanks to the participation of more than 8,600 volunteers and 140 Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) employees, the Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day was a huge success. On Saturday, April 17, the volunteers charged their way to the 27 cleanup sites throughout Miami-Dade County and collectively helped to get rid of several tons of trash from the shorelines and nearby islands of Biscayne Bay. Baynanza photos will soon be posted.

Baynanza is more than a community event; it's now a tradition that has transcended two generations throughout its 28-year history. Be a part of this monumental effort next April when we will be celebrating the 29th anniversary of the Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day. Check back with us early next year for more information about Baynanza 2011. Join Baynanza 2011 and you too can be a part of history!

    Baynanza 2009 was a record-breaking year!

On April 18, 2009, more than 8,500 volunteers - the most ever - participated in the Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day throughout 29 sites alongside the shoreline and nearby islands of Biscayne Bay. Together, they collected tons of trash, some of which was sent to a recycling facility.

A number of interesting items like broken strollers and lounge chairs were found at some of the sites. In the end, the Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day 2009 was declared a huge success and we would like to thank all of the volunteers who came out and helped clean up our precious Bay.

We would also like to thank all of the sponsors, partners and DERM staff who made this event possible. To put the magnitude of the impact of this event, one volunteer said, "You don't really want to find trash on our beaches, but when you do, I feel good to be doing my part by cleaning it up!"

We hope to see everyone again at Baynanza 2010, and in the meantime, please consider doing your part all year round.

    Baynanza 2008

Baynanza 2008 was fun and very fulfilling for thousands of community volunteers. Thanks to the participation of more than 7,600 volunteers and over 150 DERM employees, the Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day was a huge success.

On April 19, 2008 the volunteers charged their way to the 29 cleanup sites throughout Miami-Dade County and collectively helped to get rid of more than 38 tons of trash from the shorelines and nearby islands of Biscayne Bay.

"This was an opportunity for all residents, young and old, to enjoy our Bay while doing their part to protect it.  The hope is that if residents see the impact this debris has on the ecosystem, they will be more inclined to help to preserve it," said Carlos Espinosa, DERM Director.

Thousands of volunteers joined us to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Baynanza in 2007

It was a fun and very fulfilling experience for the thousands of volunteers who participated in the 25th annual Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day on April 14, 2007.

    Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day 2006

On April 22, 2006, six thousand volunteers joined us for the Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day. This was a great way to celebrate Earth Day! Cleanup sites ranged from East Greynolds Park to Biscayne National Park and everything in between!
