National Programs

	The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program trains people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. Should disaster strike, CERT members can provide immediate first aid assistance to victims and give critical support to first responders. Their training includes basic fire suppression and search and rescue techniques.
	Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) gives citizens the opportunity to support the efforts of their state and local law enforcement agencies in protecting their communities from crime and terrorism. Through the time and considerable talents of civilian volunteers who provide administrative and clerical support, our law enforcement professionals are to better perform their frontline duties.
	The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) plays an integral part in our preparedness and response strategy. It provides an organized way for retired and practicing physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to volunteers their skills and expertise during local crises and throughout the year. Local MRC volunteer assist during large-scale emergencies such as an act of terrorism or an outbreak of influenza.
	Neighborhood Watch is a highly successful program that helps reduce and even prevent residential crime. Its unique infrastructure brings together neighborhood residents with local law enforcement who work together and better secure the safety of communities. Neighborhoods that start and maintain an active Neighborhood Watch program take a major step in reclaiming their communities as well as making them safer for everyone.
