PARK(ing) Day Miami is on Sept. 19

PARK(ing) Day is an annual global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places. This year Miami Dade County Parks is participating by including 5 of their own for a total of 10 spots in and around Downtown Miami.

Ribfest returns Oct. 31 - Nov. 2

Come to ZooMiami for live entertainment and great food during this years three-day outdoor grilling extravaganza, where national ribbers compete for the best ribs trophies and bragging rights.

Mission Everglades Brick Project

Leave your mark at Zoo Miami by purchasing a commemorative brick that will line the walkway to the new Zoo Miami Florida: Mission Everglades Exhibit. Opening in 2016, it will feature state-of-the-art interactive exhibits showcasing the majestic and unique ecology of our world-famous River of Grass

Fit2Play After-School Programs Underway!

Starting Aug. 18 - June 5, 2015, Monday - Friday, from 2 - 6 p.m., kids will enjoy after school activities focused on fitness, nutrition and wellness, and developing their appreciation of nature, science and the cultural arts.

Effective Sept. 15: Miami's Longest Urban Linear Park & Trail Re-Named ''The Underline''

The UnderlineFriends of the Underline in cooperation with Miami-Dade County is leading “The Underline” initiative to transform the underutilized land beneath the Metrorail into a 10-mile linear park and bicycle and pedestrian commuter/exercise trail. 



Fee-Free P.L.A.Y. Day at Deering Estate

DeeringEnjoy FREE admission to the Deering Estate at Cutler on September 20, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Guests can enjoy complimentary admission as well as hands on science activities and historic house tours. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

At Miami-Dade Parks, we’re here to help, in partnership with the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine that helped us develop this program and has scientifically measured its positive impact. 


The Parks Foundation Receives a $5,300 Quality of Life Grant

HandcyclingThe Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade is proud to announce that it has received a $5,300 Quality of Life grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation for the purchase of two adult hand-cycles and a recumbent bike to support Miami-Dade Parks Disability Services’ Hand-cycling Program – Hand-cycles for All.

The award was one of 73 grants totaling over $537,550 awarded by the Reeve Foundation to nonprofit organizations nationwide that provide more opportunities, access, and daily quality of life for individuals living with paralysis, their families, and caregivers.

Heads Up: Concussion in youth sports

To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports.

The Heads Up initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion. It's Better to Miss One Game Than the Whole Season!



Walkability in Miami-Dade County

The video focuses showing effects of health on creating a walkable neighborhood. It touches on the dangers of our city becoming car-centric.

In addition, the video shows how Miami already has neighborhoods based on walkable designs and community participation in the promotion of healthy neighborhoods. See this is a short public health video focused on Walkability in Miami-Dade County.
