Be part of all the fun at Miami-Dade Parks next summer
Applications will be accepted beginning Feb. 23 - March 22, for a variety of summer jobs including pool managers, lifeguards, swim instructors, park service aides and recreation leaders. Individuals must be at least 17 years old to apply.
Park's adaptive sports program for disabled vets
Miami-Dade County’s Disability Services Division was granted nearly $23,000 from the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs to expand and aid its COVERT program (Connecting the Outdoors with Veterans through Education, Recreation and Training). The goal is to promote lifelong mental and physical health through regular participation in adaptive sports.

The Parks Foundation received a donation from Major League Baseball's Miguel Cabrera
Miguel Cabrera presented a $24,000 contribution, on behalf of the “Miguel Cabrera Foundation”, to the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade County on Jan. 30 for renovations to the baseball fields at Brothers to the Rescue Memorial Park.
The Foundation seeks to help kids thrive, using the “star” power of baseball to help them reach for the stars. It actively lends its support to youth development programs, providing community and school ballpark makeovers and college scholarships to high school graduates throughout the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Coca-Cola Troops for Fitness Program
Over the next three years, Miami-Dade County will be one of 12 communities seeking to hire nearly 200 veterans to teach fitness and nutrition classes, and to help inspire residents to live healthier, active lifestyles through The Coca-Cola Troops for Fitness Program.
Mission Everglades Brick Project
Leave your mark at Zoo Miami by purchasing a commemorative brick that will line the walkway to the new Zoo Miami Florida: Mission Everglades Exhibit. Opening in 2016, it will feature state-of-the-art interactive exhibits showcasing the majestic and unique ecology of our world-famous River of Grass.
Areas of Colonial Drive Park temporarily closed
Higher than normal concentrations of arsenic was found in the athletic fields. Park users can expect to see signage and fencing closing off contaminated areas to the public. For more information, please call 305-755-7834.
Heads Up: Concussion in youth sports
To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports.
The Heads Up initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion. It's Better to Miss One Game Than the Whole Season!
Walkability in Miami-Dade County
The video focuses showing effects of health on creating a walkable neighborhood. It touches on the dangers of our city becoming car-centric.
